Self-serve electric cryotherapy with no liquid nitrogen

The XR Kiosk is a self-serve cryotherapy chamber designed for commercial locations. It uses super-cooled air instead of liquid nitrogen, sessions last about three minutes, and a built-in point-of-sale with RFID phone-based access lets clients book, pay and start sessions on their own. Safety is built into the workflow: the chamber only runs when the registered user is inside, and it checks waivers, payment status and real-time sensor data before and during every session. It is available as a 1- or 2-person kiosk.

What a session looks like

Clients use the phone-based access system to book, sign a waiver, pay and start a session on their own. The chamber checks identity, waiver, payment and real-time sensor data before it starts, runs a session of about three minutes, and will not run unless the registered user is inside. Operators can manage accounts, packages and settings from the built-in point-of-sale and the Wi-Fi app.

Space, power and setup

The kiosk is designed to fit through standard doors and needs a dedicated 220 V three-phase service, a 10 × 10 ft room with an 8 ft ceiling, Wi-Fi or CAT 5 and (in humid rooms) an HVAC or dehumidifier to keep humidity below about 35%. Built-in safety features

• Will not run unless the assigned user is physically inside the chamber

• Temperature, humidity and motion sensors, plus thermal imaging and door alarms
• Shuts down automatically if an unregistered user or more than one person is inside

Safety and who should not use it

Cryotherapy is intended for healthy adults using it as directed. Anyone with a medical condition, or who is unsure whether they are eligible, should speak with a physician first. The manufacturer lists the following as conditions to check before treatment:

• Heart and circulation: peripheral arterial disease, ischemic heart disease, unstable angina, arrhythmia, heart attack or stroke within the past 12 months, valve disease or heart failure, uncontrolled high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis and other circulatory problems
• Lungs and nervous system: COPD, symptomatic lung disorders, cold-activated asthma, certain nervous-system conditions
• Surgery and devices: heart surgery, including pacemakers and defibrillators
• Infection: active skin infections, open wounds or ulcers, active tuberculosis, current urinary tract infection
• Other: severe anemia, severe claustrophobia, acute kidney or chronic liver disease, diabetes, vasculitis, Raynaud's disease, polyneuropathy, bleeding disorders, cold hypersensitivity (such as cold urticaria), active cancer, seizure disorders, excessive sweating
• Pregnancy or possible pregnancy
