Indoor vs. Outdoor Cold Plunge: Placement, Winterizing and Power Needs

Short answer: Both work. Outdoors, plan for sun, debris, freezing temperatures and rain, and choose a tub and chiller built for it. Indoors, plan for floor load, humidity, drainage and splashing. Either way you need a level surface, safe electrical power with ground-fault protection, and water access.

Outdoor checklist
- Base. A level, load-bearing surface such as a patio or deck rated for the filled weight.
- Power. Use outdoor-rated, ground-fault-protected outlets. Ask an electrician.
- Sun and debris. Use a cover. Cryospring sells a solar cover ($99).
- Freezing. Follow the manual for cold-weather use and draining. Chillers and pumps can be damaged by freezing.
- Safety. Keep children away, and make sure the area is well lit and non-slip.
Indoor checklist
- Floor. Confirm it can carry the filled weight, and protect it from water.
- Drainage. Plan how you will drain and refill.
- Humidity. Cold water and warm rooms create condensation. Ventilate.
- Noise. Chillers hum. Place them where that is acceptable.
