Home Setup Guide: Space, Power and Placement for Your Chamber

Short answer: Chambers listed on our site range from about 68″ to 103″ long, and vertical models stand 85″ to 6.5 feet tall. Measure the room, the doorway and the path the boxed chamber will take, then plan a level floor, a standard outlet, ventilation for the compressors and oxygen generator, and clear space away from ignition sources.

Plan the space

• Route. Measure doors, stairs, corners and elevators for the boxed chamber and, for hard-shell units, the delivery equipment.
• Room. Leave working space around the chamber for entry, the frame and equipment. Vertical models need about 7 feet of ceiling clearance.
• Floor. Use a level, dry floor that can carry the chamber, mattress and occupants. Hard-shell chambers are much heavier.
• Surface. A clean, smooth surface protects the fabric and makes cleaning easier.

Power and airflow

• Summit to Sea vertical models run on a standard 15 to 20 amp outlet. The Grand Dive Vertical and Grand Dive Pro draw about 200 W.
• Do not use extension cords or overloaded circuits. Ask an electrician if you are unsure.
• Compressors and the oxygen generator need airflow. Place the generator as the manual says, in a ventilated spot.

Fire safety placement

• Keep flames, sparks and heat sources such as heaters and sauna equipment well away.
• Keep a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher in the room.
• Do not store flammables nearby.

Comfort and convenience

• Keep water, a towel and a timer within reach of the entry.
• Think about light, temperature and sound in the room.
