How Often Should You Use a Home Hyperbaric Chamber?

September 27, 2026 2 min read

Short answer: There is no single correct schedule. Session length, pressure and frequency should follow your prescriber's instructions and the chamber manufacturer's manual, and they can differ by chamber, pressure rating and reason for use. Do not set your own schedule from a forum or a product page.

Why frequency varies

  • Pressure. Chambers range from 1.3 ATA (Summit to Sea, Newtowne) through 1.4 to 1.5 ATA (OxyRevo, Oxyair, Macy-Pan, Titan) to 2.0 ATA in hard-shell models. Higher pressure changes the risks and the supervision needed.
  • Your health. A physician sets limits based on your conditions and medications.
  • Purpose. Medical treatment protocols are set by clinicians for specific conditions. Wellness use is not a medical protocol.
  • The manual. Each manufacturer states session limits and rest periods for its chamber.

What sessions typically involve

Sessions are often around an hour, including pressurization and depressurization. See what to expect in your first session. The exact time comes from your prescriber and the manual.

How to plan a schedule

  1. Ask your physician for a written schedule and stop rules.
  2. Check it against the manual's limits.
  3. Choose fixed times you can keep, and leave time for setup and cleaning.
  4. Start conservatively and do not add sessions on your own.

What to track

  • Date, start and end time, and pressure reached.
  • Any ear, sinus or breathing symptoms.
  • How you felt before and after.
  • Maintenance checks and any alarms.

Share the log with your physician at follow-ups.

Signs to stop and call your doctor

  • Ear or sinus pain that does not settle.
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath or dizziness.
  • Vision changes or confusion.

Frequently asked questions

How many times a week should I use a hyperbaric chamber?

It depends on your prescriber's instructions and the manufacturer's manual. Do not set your own schedule.

Can I use it more often if I feel fine?

Not without medical guidance. Higher pressure and longer or more frequent sessions raise risks such as ear injury and oxygen toxicity.
